Central Railway praised the staff members, Valentine D’Souza, a pointsman, and Sikandara Sahani of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), for their quick action. The passenger was attempting to board train number 11030 when the incident occurred on the platform.
How the Rescue Unfolded at Lonavala Station
CCTV footage shared by Central Railway shows the train already in motion on platform 2 as the passenger near the edge lost footing. One of the staff members, wearing an orange high-visibility vest, moved in promptly, reached the passenger, and pulled the individual clear of the tracks as the coaches continued past. The platform surface appears wet in the video. Both employees are credited with the alertness that prevented a potentially serious accident.
Official Recognition by Central Railway
In a post on X, Central Railway described the pair as "heroes on duty" and said their extraordinary alertness saved the passenger’s life. The railway also used the opportunity to remind the public not to board or alight from a moving train. Lonavala is a busy station on the Mumbai–Pune section of Central Railway. Staff regularly monitor platforms for passenger safety, especially during peak hours and in wet conditions.
The railway has not released further details about the passenger’s condition after the rescue. "Never board or deboard a moving train", the Central Railway said.
