More than 60 people were injured after a stray dog entered a wedding farewell ceremony at a banquet hall in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun and began attacking guests, officials said on Wednesday, April 22. The incident occurred on Monday, April 20, at the Abhinandan banquet hall on Bilsi Road under the Bisauli police station limits.

According to eyewitnesses, the dog entered the premises during the farewell event and started biting people indiscriminately. The situation quickly escalated into a stampede-like rush, with women and children screaming and attempting to flee. Several individuals fell during the chaos and sustained injuries. The injured included people of various ages, from children to elderly attendees.

After the incident at the banquet hall, the dog reportedly moved onto the nearby road, where it attacked pedestrians and shopkeepers. It later fled towards a nearby village, where it is also believed to have bitten cattle. All injured individuals were taken to the community health centre (CHC) in Bisauli, where they received anti-rabies vaccinations and initial treatment before being discharged. Some victims also sought care at private hospitals.

Medical officer Arvind Verma said that 109 people were registered for anti-rabies treatment on Monday, with around 60 cases linked directly to the banquet hall incident.

The incident has sparked concern among residents, who have raised questions over stray dog management in the area. Locals allege that despite allocated funds, effective control measures are not visible on the ground. Additional District Magistrate Arun Kumar has directed the municipal authorities to take immediate action to address the issue and prevent further incidents.
