A 50-year-old senior neurosurgeon was charred to death after his Volvo car crashed into a road divider and caught fire on the Hyderabad-Khammam highway in Telangana's Suryapet district on Sunday morning, September 20. The deceased has been identified as Dr Kasakurthi Jagadish (also known as Dr Kasakurthi Jagadeesh), a senior neurosurgeon associated with Mamata Hospital in Khammam.
The accident took place near Pillalamarri at around 7:15 am when the vehicle, travelling from Khammam towards Hyderabad, lost control and collided with the divider, India Today reported. The car burst into flames shortly after the impact and was completely gutted before rescue personnel could pull the doctor out. Passersby alerted the police after noticing the burning vehicle. However, the car was engulfed in flames before a fire engine could reach the location and rescue the driver. Police identified the victim based on the vehicle's registration number. Dr Jagadish was travelling to Hyderabad to meet his family when the accident occurred.
CCTV footage has emerged showing the moments leading up to the fatal collision. In the footage, the Volvo can be seen approaching from a distance along the highway. Suddenly, from the fast lane, the vehicle veered left, crossed all lanes, and slammed into the outer barrier. Seconds later, the car erupted into flames, which rapidly spread through the entire structure before local bystanders or emergency services could intervene. The initial investigation has suggested that drowsy driving may have contributed to the crash, although police have not yet established the exact cause of the accident.
