IIT Kanpur Professor Faces FIR After Wife Alleges Domestic Violence, Forced S*x, and Extramarital Affairs
An IIT Kanpur professor has been booked after his wife, also an assistant professor at the institute, alleged domestic violence, physical assault, mental cruelty, criminal intimidation and attempted forced s*xual relations. Police have registered an FIR and said further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
An FIR has been registered against a professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur after his wife, who is also an assistant professor at the institute, accused him of domestic violence, physical assault, mental cruelty, criminal intimidation and attempting to force s*xual relations. Police said the case was registered at Kalyanpur Police Station following the woman's complaint, and an investigation is underway.
According to police, the complainant, an assistant professor in the Department of Cognitive Science, alleged that she had endured sustained physical and mental abuse since late 2025. She accused her husband, a professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering and Cognitive Science, of repeatedly assaulting her, issuing threats, damaging household property and subjecting her to prolonged harassment. FIR Against IIT Kanpur Professor Over Wife's Domestic Violence, Assault and Forced S*x Allegations
The case was lodged by Kalyanpur police after the woman filed a complaint on Wednesday, July 29. Police said further legal action will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation. "Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation," Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kalyanpur) Dilip Kumar Singh said.
Authorities said they have invoked relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to cruelty by a husband, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult and mischief. Allegations Detailed in Complaint
In her complaint, the woman alleged that her husband admitted to having an affair with one of his former PhD scholars and was currently involved in an inappropriate relationship with a woman colleague. She claimed that when she confronted him over the alleged relationships, she was repeatedly assaulted and intimidated.
The complainant also alleged that the professor attempted to force s*xual relations despite her refusal and shared intimate details of their private life with lawyers through emails. According to the complaint, the alleged harassment caused severe mental trauma, resulting in an anxiety attack that required hospitalisation.
Police said the FIR follows the woman's complaint alleging sustained abuse, threats and harassment. Investigators are examining the allegations and collecting evidence before deciding the next course of legal action. No response from the accused professor or IIT Kanpur had been made public at the time of publication.
