According to an official directive issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK), both government and recognized private schools up to the higher secondary level will remain closed from July 6 to July 19, 2026.
The decision, which received formal approval from the administrative department, comes in response to an ongoing heatwave across the region. Directorate officials confirmed that schools are scheduled to resume regular operations on July 20, 2026. Director of School Education Kashmir, Naseer Ahmad Wani, stated that the proactive measure aims to ensure the health and well-being of school-going children as daytime temperatures continue to hover significantly above normal seasonal averages. Over the past week, Srinagar and surrounding districts have recorded some of the season’s highest temperatures, triggering widespread calls from parents and local stakeholders for an early recess.
