Videos of the rescue have since circulated widely on social media, highlighting the dangers of entering restricted areas around waterfalls during the monsoon season.
Monsoon Continues to Lash Karnataka
The rescue comes as heavy monsoon rainfall continues to affect several parts of Karnataka. Last week, three members of a family, including two girls, were killed after a rain-triggered landslide destroyed a house in Mangaluru's Nagori area. Three other people were rescued from the debris.
Preliminary findings indicated that continuous rainfall caused a large section of soil from a nearby hill to collapse, burying the house beneath it. Authorities have repeatedly urged residents and tourists to avoid restricted areas near waterfalls, rivers and other water bodies during periods of heavy rainfall, as water levels can rise rapidly without warning.
