The incident took place near Masab Tank in Hyderabad when the 63-year-old advocate was about to leave in his Toyota Innova. According to police, a green-coloured Mahindra Scorpio allegedly rammed into him outside his residence.
The viral video of the incident shows Khaja Moizuddin placing his bag inside the vehicle and preparing to enter the driver’s seat. Moments later, the SUV appears to change direction and crashes into him with force, throwing him nearly 15 to 20 feet away from the car. Locals immediately rushed to help and shifted him to Mahavir Hospital. He was later moved to another hospital for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Family members of the senior lawyer have alleged that the incident was not an accident but a pre-planned murder linked to long-running legal disputes over alleged waqf land encroachments. His son, advocate Mohammad Farhan, claimed that Khaja Moizuddin had been fighting several sensitive cases involving alleged illegal occupation and privatisation of waqf properties.
Farhan further alleged that his father had received threats in the past and had faced multiple attacks because of the legal battles he was pursuing. He also named two individuals as prime suspects and demanded a detailed investigation into the case.
Police officials said a hit-and-run case has been registered and four special teams have been formed to trace the vehicle and identify the accused involved in the incident.
The death of Khaja Moizuddin has sparked concern among lawyers and legal bodies in Hyderabad, with several advocates demanding swift action, transparency in the investigation and better protection for lawyers handling sensitive matters related to land disputes and public interest cases.
The viral CCTV footage of the incident continues to circulate online as investigators examine all possible angles behind the Hyderabad lawyer’s death.
