Mumbai, April 1: The Kota police in Rajasthan have registered a criminal case against former councillor and PhD student Om Gunjal following a harassment complaint filed by a female professor of Kota University. The complainant alleged that Gunjal has been stalking her for several days, culminating in multiple attempts to forcibly enter her residence while intoxicated.

Allegations of Stalking and Forced Entry Against Om Gunjal

According to the official complaint, the professor stated that Gunjal’s behaviour has escalated recently, causing her significant distress. She reported that the accused frequently visits her multi-story residential building under the influence of alcohol. The professor further alleged that Gunjal has repeatedly attempted to push his way into her flat and routinely rings her doorbell late at night to intimidate her. In addition to the physical harassment, the complainant claimed she had received death threats from the former councillor.

Police Investigation and Legal Charges

Circle Inspector (CI) Ramesh Kaviya confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged. "Based on the woman's complaint, a case regarding intimidation and blackmail has been registered against Om Gunjal," Kaviya stated. He noted that the accused faces serious allegations, including intruding upon the victim's premises and persistent stalking. Sub-Inspector (SI) Pratap Singh noted that while the initial complaint was submitted late Sunday, the formal recording of the professor’s detailed statement is the next critical step. Accused Is Nephew of Former MLA Prahlad Gunjal

According to the police, the accused, Om Gunjal, is a former councillor and is reported to be the nephew of former MLA Prahlad Gunjal. The investigation into the case has been entrusted to ASI Pratap Singh. Om Gunjal, who previously served as a councillor and is currently a PhD student, has not yet issued a public statement regarding the allegations.

Local authorities have intensified patrols near the professor’s residence as a precautionary measure while the investigation continues. The police have stated that they are currently gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses in the residential complex to verify the frequency of the accused’s visits. Further legal steps, including potential arrest, will depend on the findings of the ongoing probe.
