Mumbai, January 13: Around 19 people were killed while two remain trapped underground after a roof collapse at a coal mine in northern China on Saturday afternoon, reports official news agency Xinhua reported, citing local authorities. The report states that 87 people were working underground in the Shaanxi province mine at the time of the accident. The rescue operation has started to evacuate two trapped miners, while 66 others have been airlifted to safety. However, the case of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
In another news, the Election commission conducted a two-day conference of the Chief Electoral Officers of all the States and Union Territories on January 11 and 12, with a focus on the integrity of the electoral roll, meticulous planning for elections, EVM and VVPAT assessment and training and extensive voter outreach. Along with this, the EC did a comprehensive review of poll preparedness of the states prior to the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
Around 16 students and two others in Uttar Pradesh’s Bhadohi district suffered burns after an LPG cylinder inside a school van exploded on Saturday. The condition of four students is stated to be critical – suffering 50-70 percent burns – while rest of them have been discharged from the hospital. Police have registered an FIR against the manager of SC Convent School and the van driver for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
