Days after a viral image of a female protester standing in front of a police van captured widespread attention, another video has now surfaced online, this time showing a woman police officer standing her ground in front of a bus surrounded by a large crowd of protesters. The incident took place in Bhopal, where farmers marching towards the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister's residence to press their demands attempted to push a bus off the road. The officer at the centre of the viral moment is Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic and Crime, Monika Shukla, who has since been dubbed Bhopal's "Lady Singham" online.

How The Incident Unfolded

Police had parked school buses on the road as an additional layer of barricading to stop the farmers' march from entering the city. When protesters tried to push the buses aside to remove the barricade, Shukla stepped directly in front of one of them.

The video of her standing firm in front of the bus quickly went viral, with the protesting farmers eventually backing off and leaving the bus alone.

'Nothing Extraordinary,' Says ACP Shukla

Despite the praise pouring in online, Shukla downplayed her actions, calling the moment "nothing extraordinary" and crediting her long experience in law and order management for helping her handle the situation.

Speaking about her overall duty that day, she said her objective was simple: to stop farmers from entering the city and ensure nothing untoward happened in the state capital.

On Protesters And Police Restraint

Shukla was clear that protesters should not be viewed as criminals. "We need to work with restraint. Protesters are not criminals. They are also citizens raising their demands," she said.

At the same time, she flagged the risk of anti-social elements infiltrating peaceful protests to cause trouble, noting that the farmers' march that day had no clear leader, which added to the challenge of managing the crowd.

"There was no leader of the farm protesters at that point and a large number of people were trying to enter the state capital. My responsibility was to ensure that nothing untoward happened in the city. My only concern was to ensure law and order," she said.

On Delhi Student Protests

Asked about the recent student protests in Delhi, Shukla said everyone has the right to express their views in a democracy, but added that dissent "should be done in a peaceful manner within the ambit of law and without disrupting lives of common people."
