Mumbai Mega Block on September 27: Will Local Train Services Be Affected?

Mumbaikars, who enjoyed uninterrupted suburban local travel following the cancellation of the mega block during Ganesh Utsav, will face significant travel adjustments on Sunday, September 27. The railway authorities have announced mega blocks across all three suburban lines to carry out essential engineering and maintenance operations. A 'mega block' will be taken between Matunga and Mulund on the main line of the Central Railway and between Kurla and Vashi on the Harbour line.

While daytime blocks will affect both Central and Harbour corridor commuters, Western Railway passengers will see minimal daytime disruption as maintenance along that route has been scheduled during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Mumbai Mega Block on September 27: 

Central Line: Fast Services Diverted Between Matunga and Mulund

On the Central Railway Main Line, the maintenance block will be operated between Matunga and Mulund stations on both Up and Down fast lines from 11:05 am to 3:45 pm.

Down Fast Line services departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai between 10:36 am and 3:10 pm will be diverted to the Down Slow Line at Matunga station. These trains will halt at designated stations between Matunga and Mulund and will reach their destinations approximately 15 minutes late. Local trains on the Up Fast Line departing from Thane between 11:03 am and 3:38 pm will be diverted to the Up Slow Line at Mulund station. These trains will halt at their scheduled stations between Mulund and Matunga before being re-diverted to the Up Fast Line at Matunga, also arriving 15 minutes behind schedule.

Additionally, the schedule for the Khopoli–CSMT local train departing Khopoli at 1:48 pm has been revised; it will now depart at 2:06 pm.

Harbour Line: Kurla to Vashi Services Suspended

The Harbour Line will observe a block on the Kurla–Vashi Up and Down corridors from 11:10 am to 4:10 pm.

Down Harbour Line local services from CSMT to Vashi, Belapur, and Panvel will remain cancelled from 10:34 am to 3:36 pm. Similarly, Up Harbour Line services departing Panvel, Belapur, and Vashi for CSMT will remain suspended from 10:17 am to 3:47 pm.

To mitigate commuter inconvenience, special local train services will operate between CSMT – Kurla – CSMT and Panvel – Vashi – Panvel throughout the block window. Local services along the Trans-Harbour and Uran Port routes will continue to run as per the regular Sunday timetable. Furthermore, Harbour Line ticket and pass holders will be permitted to travel via Thane – Vashi/Nerul stations between 10:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Western Line: Night Jumbo Block Between Vasai Road and Bhayander

On the Western Railway network, maintenance work has been scheduled as a night Jumbo Block between Vasai Road and Bhayander stations on the Up and Down slow lines.

The block will take effect from 12:30 midnight on Saturday, September 26, to 4:30 am on Sunday, September 27. During this window, all local trains on the slow line will be operated on the fast line between Virar/Vasai Road and Borivali/Bhayander.

Railway officials confirmed that there will be no daytime block on the Western Railway on Sunday, allowing normal daytime suburban services to run on schedule.
