Twisha Sharma and her husband Samarth Singh

The death of 33-year-old former beauty pageant contestant and corporate professional Twisha Sharma in Bhopal has triggered a widening investigation, with her family alleging dowry harassment, physical abuse and manipulation by her husband and in-laws. The case has drawn national attention after details of her final phone call to her parents and allegations from both families surfaced publicly. Twisha, originally from Greater Noida West, was found dead at her marital home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, barely five months after her marriage to lawyer Samarth Singh. Police have registered a case under sections related to dowry death and cruelty by husband or relatives.

Final Call to Parents Before Death

According to Twisha’s father Navnidhi Sharma, she called her mother on the night of May 12 and said she had undergone an abortion and wanted to return home to Noida. Her father alleged that during the call, shouting could be heard in the background before the phone disconnected. The family claimed repeated attempts to contact Twisha and her husband went unanswered until her mother-in-law briefly informed them that “she’s no more.” The family travelled overnight from Noida to Bhopal after receiving the news.

Family Alleges Dowry Harassment and Abuse

Twisha’s parents have accused her husband and in-laws of mental and physical harassment linked to dowry demands and disputes after marriage. Her father claimed there had been complaints regarding wedding arrangements and financial expectations from the groom’s side even before the wedding ceremony. Twisha Sharma Death Case: Victim’s Mother-in-Law and Retired Judge Giribala Singh Claims She Terminated Pregnancy After Consuming ‘Large Quantities of Marijuana’.

The family also alleged that Twisha had informed them about repeated taunts, financial control and pressure related to her pregnancy. According to the family, she had briefly returned to Noida in April after facing distress during her pregnancy.

Friends and relatives who later joined protests in Delhi said there had been “red flags” in the marriage after the wedding, though many were unaware of the extent of her struggles.

CCTV Footage and Missing Husband

Investigators are also examining CCTV footage from the residence. Videos reportedly show Twisha walking toward the terrace of the house on the morning of May 12. Later footage allegedly shows her husband, a neighbour and a househelp attempting CPR before carrying her downstairs.

Police have formed multiple teams to trace Samarth Singh, who remains untraceable days after the incident. Reports said a reward has been announced for information regarding his whereabouts.

Mother-in-Law Rejects Allegations

Twisha’s mother-in-law, retired judge Giribala Singh, has publicly denied allegations of dowry harassment and murder. She claimed Twisha had been dealing with mental health issues and had undergone psychiatric counselling.

She also alleged that Twisha had consumed abortion medication and had displayed erratic behaviour during pregnancy. Twisha’s family has rejected these statements, calling them an attempt at “character assassination.”

Demand for Second Post-Mortem

Twisha’s family has questioned the initial post-mortem report and demanded a second autopsy at AIIMS Delhi. They claim the first report did not adequately document visible injuries and bruises on her body. The family has also staged protests demanding an impartial investigation and stronger action against the accused.
