Security forces gunned down two foreign terrorists suspected of being affiliated with the Pakistan-based proscribed outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) during an overnight operation in the high-altitude forests of Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. An alleged over-ground worker (OGW) assisting the group was also detained.

The joint operation—code-named Operation Sohan—was launched around 9:00 PM on Wednesday following intelligence regarding a group of armed infiltrators moving through the Majalta area. Units from the Indian Army's White Knight Corps (Rashtriya Rifles and Para Special Forces), the Jammu & Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) surrounded the Brattal Sohan and Khubban forest zones. Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorist Killed As Army Foils Infiltration Bid on LoC in Poonch.

Initial contact was established late Wednesday night, followed by intermittent exchange of fire. Despite poor visibility, rugged terrain, and persistent heavy rainfall, security forces maintained a strict cordon throughout the night.

Early Thursday morning, the trapped insurgents attempted to break the cordon by opening heavy automatic fire. Security forces retaliated, neutralizing both targets. Armed assault rifles, ammunition, and explosives were recovered from the encounter site during search operations.

In a statement posted on X, the Indian Army's White Knight Corps confirmed that "a targeted counter-terrorism operation resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists," adding that search and surveillance operations remain active in the region to track any remaining threats. Jammu and Kashmir: Terrorist Killed in Joint Operation in Budgam, AK Rifle Recovered.

The detention of the local alleged OGW is being viewed as a key operational lead, with investigators questioning the individual to uncover logistics support, safe houses, and communication links utilized by the terror module in the Jammu region. Over the past several months, security agencies have tightened vigilance across the higher reaches of Udhampur, Reasi, Kathua, and the Pir Panjal belt to eliminate infiltrating modules before they can establish bases in urban areas. Combing operations in the Majalta forest range remain underway.
