Visiting an OYO Rooms property, hotel, lodge, guest house or homestay in Nagpur? The city police have introduced stricter operating and verification requirements under ‘Operation Shakti’, aimed at preventing human trafficking, prostitution, fraud and other illegal activities. The directions will remain in force from September 11 to November 9, 2026.

The guidelines were issued by Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil following directions from guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, after discussions with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Visiting OYO Rooms? Check These New Hotel Rules

Under the new directions, OYO properties and other hotels must comply with several verification and security requirements.

1. ‘Zero Tolerance’ Board Mandatory

Hotels and OYO properties have been directed to prominently display a “zero tolerance” board stating that human trafficking and illegal activities will not be permitted on the premises.

2. Original ID Verification Required

Hotels must verify the original identity document of every guest before allotting a room. Guest information must then be recorded in a physical register or digital system.

3. Unmarried Couples Can Stay Together

The directions do not prohibit unmarried couples from staying in hotels. Two consenting adults aged 18 or above can stay together, provided their age and residential details are properly verified and recorded by the hotel.

4. CCTV Must Work 24x7

Hotels must ensure that CCTV cameras covering areas from the entrance to the lobby remain operational around the clock.

CCTV recordings must be preserved for at least one year. Police have also directed hotels to repair faulty cameras immediately.

5. Stricter Rules For Minors

Hotels have been instructed to exercise strict verification when minors are involved. Minors should not be admitted unless they are accompanied by a parent.

6. Employee Records Must Be Updated

Hotel owners and managers must maintain updated records of all employees and officials working at the property. These records should include:

• Identity documents
• Proof of residence
• Phone numbers

7. Action Against Unauthorised OYO Properties

Nagpur police have also intensified action against hotels allegedly using the OYO brand without authorisation. In coordination with OYO, police have removed signboards from more than 20 hotels accused of unauthorised use of the brand name.

Legal action against the properties is underway.

The latest directions mean guests staying at OYO properties, hotels, lodges, guest houses and homestays in Nagpur can expect stricter identity verification and record-keeping. The measures are intended to strengthen surveillance and verification at accommodation facilities and prevent their misuse for trafficking, prostitution, fraud and other illegal activities.

The directions will remain applicable in Nagpur from September 11 to November 9, 2026.
