Raipur, December 11: The results of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Elections 2018 will be declared on Tuesday. The counting of votes will begin from 8 am IST, and one can expect the clear results to be declared by late afternoon. We bring to you the live updates from six constituencies of Chhattisgarh - Bharatpur Sonhat, Manendragarh, Baikunthpur, Premnagar, Bhatgaon and Pratappur. The Election Commission of India conducted Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha elections for 90 seats in two phases on November 12 and 20. The state had recorded a voters’ turnout of 76.35 percent. Unlike the exit poll results of other states such as Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan or Mizoram, Chhattisgarh does not head into the counting day with a clear winner. It is going to be a tug-of-war between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Indian National Congress (INC) for the top spot. Bharatpur-Sonhat Assembly Seat
The Bharatpur-Sonhat Constituency comes under the Korba Lok Sabha seat in Chhattisgarh and is located in the Koriya district. The sitting MLA from this constituency is BJP’s Champa Devi Pawle. This year, Gulab Singh Kamro of INC along with BSP’s Krishna Raksel is in the fray against Champa Devi Pawle of BJP in the current elections, and it will be interesting to see if the BSP eats into the vote share of the dominating parties of the state. Manendragarh Assembly Seat
The Manendragarh assembly seat comes in the Koriya district of north Chhattisgarh and is well known for centuries for its coal mines. The constituency has become a BJP bastion as the Saffron Party has held on to it for the past ten years. In 2013, Shyam Bihari Jaiswal was elected as MLA from Mahendragarh as he defeated Congress’ Gulab Singh by 4,178 votes.
The value of this seat can only be gauged by the fact that there were talks of Ajit Jogi’s son Amit Jogi, an influential leader from the state of Chhattisgarh and a former Congressman just like his father, fighting elections from Mahendragarh for his party-the Janta Congress Chattisgarh. Baikunthpur Assembly Seat
The assembly seat of Baikunthpur in the Koriya district of Chhattisgarh has been with the BJP for the past two elections. The current MLA from this assembly seat is Bhaiyalal Rajwade who defeated Bedanti Tivari of Congress by a mere 1000 votes in 2013.
In the current elections, Ambika Singh Dev of Congress and Bihari Lal Rajwade of Janta Congress Chhattisgarh(JCC) were the primary challengers for the BJP. Premnagar Assembly Seat
Premnagar assembly seat is a part of Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh and comes under the Surguja Lok Sabha seat. The current MLA from Premnagar Khel Sai Singh of Congress who defeated BJP’s Renuka Singh comprehensibly by 18,000 votes. Bhatgaon Assembly Seat
The Bhatgaon constituency is part of Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh and is famous for its coal mines. The major issue in the constituency is drinking water scarcity which is a major cause of concern for the people here. The incumbent MLA is Paras Nath Rajwade of INC who defeated BJP’s Rajni Ravishankar Tripathi in the 2013 elections by a margin of 7300 votes. Pratappur Assembly Seat
One of the high-profile seats of the Chhattisgarh election is the Pratappur Assembly constituency which is part of northern Surajpur district. It is a prominent seat as the incumbent MLA, Ramsewak Paikra of BJP is the current home minister of the state. Congress is fielding Dr Premsai Singh Tekam once again who is a former minister and has won these elections in 1980, 1985, 1993, 1998 and 2008. He has come up against the Chhattisgarh home minister on several occasions, and their contest usually is very close to call. JCC’s Dr Narendra Pratap Singh is also in fray from the Pratappur Assembly seat.
