During 16th Lok Sabha Polls, K.H. Muniyappa from Indian National Congress (INC) defeated Kolar Kesava from Janata Dal (Secular). The other candidate who competed for this seat was M. Narayanaswamy from Bhartiya Janata Party(BJP). The INC candidate won by a margin of 47,850 votes where he secured 4,18,926 votes.
