World Environment Day 2018 is celebrated on June 5 every year. It is an initiative by the United Nations to raise awareness and to encourage people for the protection of our environment. Organisations such as schools, colleges and corporates involve themselves in the celebration of this day.  And even if nobody around us is observing it, we can take an initiative and celebrate it in our own way. We can take small, easy steps to create awareness about the environment. Here are five simple ways in which each one of us can participate in the celebration of World Environment Day in our schools, colleges or offices.

Plant a Sapling

You can select your group of colleagues, friends or family members and plant at least one sapling. It could be in your garden, balcony, office or anywhere else. This activity won't cost much. As a group activity, you will also make good memories with your people. If each member of the group plants a sapling, you may make sub-groups and individually name your plants too. It will be fun to take care of them and see them grow in different ways.

Gift a Sapling

Gifting is always a good idea. The simplest way to celebrate any festival is by spreading joy and gifting something to others. For World Environment Day, you can gift some people around you a small desk sapling, like bamboo or succulents. This will add a pinch of greenery to their desk and also make them more  involved  in taking care of a plant.

Put Up a Poster

Get your creative juices flowing and design an attractive poster. It could be either a caution about protecting the environment or something more detailed. Put it in up on your college notice board, your workplace cubicle or somewhere in your neighbourhood. Let people around you know about World Environment Day and try to get their attention. If you want you can also add contact details of organisations that work for the environment.

Organize a Quiz/Game Session

You can play a game or quiz for the occasion. Plan a group lunch and play a game like an 'environment vocabulary quiz' or 'guess what's this picture'. This will engage people, and make them aware of the environment and about the celebration of Environment Day.

Participate in Awareness Drive

Participate in an awareness drive in your city. A lot of organisations engage in activities such as a cleanliness drive or mass gardening. You can do a simple Google search and check for Environment Day drives happening in or around your locality and volunteer to participate in one. You can also try and motivate your friends to join in.

These small contributions from you in the celebration of World Environment Day will not only benefit you but also inspire others. Let's together try and celebrate this day and raise more awareness about the need to love and protect our environment. :)
