Sri Lanka won their first match of the tournament in style as the team out-shinned the Netherlands counterpart in every department of the game. Despite the win, Sri Lanka ended in the third position in the Group D standings of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team put up an excellent performance against the Netherlands National Cricket Team at Beausejour Stadium in St. Lucia. Invited to bat first Sri Lanka scored 201 runs in 20 overs. Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka scored 46 runs each while veteran Angelo Mathews added quickfire 30 runs in the final stage of the inning. Chasing the target, the Netherlands were never in control as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Nuwan Thushara led the bowlers with three wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana took two wickets each to register a triumphing 83-run victory over the Netherlands. Despite the win, Sri Lanka ended in the third position in the Group D standings of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
