The AT-6TH Wolverine, assigned to Wing 41, went down at approximately 10:20 a.m. in a forested area of the Chom Thong district, roughly 60 kilometers from Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai, January 29: Two Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) pilots were killed Thursday morning when their light attack aircraft crashed during a training mission in northern Thailand. The AT-6TH Wolverine, assigned to Wing 41, went down at approximately 10:20 a.m. in a forested area of the Chom Thong district, roughly 60 kilometers from Chiang Mai. RTAF spokesperson Air Marshal Chakrit Thammavichai confirmed the pilots were conducting a combat search and rescue (CSAR) exercise when the accident occurred. The victims were identified as Squadron Leader Samatcha Khunmat and Flight Lieutenant Korawit Jenkid. No civilian injuries or property damage were reported. RTAF Commander-in-Chief Air Chief Marshal Seksan Kantha has ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the crash. Training flights for the AT-6TH fleet have been temporarily suspended as a safety precaution.
