Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings Highlights, IPL 2023: Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill Take Defending Champions to Five-Wicket Victory in Opening Match

Gujarat Titans have started their IPL 2023 campaign on a high, beating Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in the season opener. Ruturaj Gaikwad's valiant effort saw CSK score 178/7 after being put to bat first and it was a few runs short, especially with the way their innings were going at one point. Gujarat Titans, too, had a good start but lost wickets in the middle overs. Shubman Gill was their star batter, scoring 63 runs off just 36 balls. Eventually, Rashid Khan's 10-run-blitz off just three balls and Rahul Tewatia's boundaries in the last over helped Gujarat Titans get over the line with four overs to spare. Gaikwad's batting and Rajvardhan Hangargekar (3/36) were the positives from this game for CSK. 

Victory for Gujarat Titans! At one point, it looked like Chennai Super Kings were well and truly in this match, but Rashid Khan's blitz and last-over heroics from Rahul Tewatia sealed the win for the defending champions! Not a good start for CSK, though and they have some areas to look at and rectify ahead of their next match.

FIFTY! Shubman Gill has scored a half-century and it has been a very good knock, which has kept Gujarat Titans in this contest. The right-hander has looked in control and will need to carry on and take his side over the line here. 

OUT! Hangargekar strikes again and this time, he has dismissed Gujarat Titans' Impact Player Sai Sudharsan. The left-hander played some good shots but, this time, threw his bat at a wide ball and got an edge, with MS Dhoni taking a good catch. Gujarat Titans are very much in this contest, with Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan taking the side to 82/1 in eight overs. The two batters have scored freely and CSK have not been able to find a way to restrict the flow of runs. MS Dhoni needs to come up with some strategies or else the game might slip from CSK's grip soon. 

OUT! The debutant has struck and dismissed Wriddhiman Saha, with Shivam Dube taking a fine catch. The opener flashes hard but Dube at third man, holds on to a good diving catch. Chennai have drawn the first blood in this chase. Can they get a few more in quick time? Stay tuned to find out! Deepak Chahar returns with his second over and Wriddhiman Saha has dispatched him for a six. A short ball by Chahar and Saha rocks back and pulls it for a six. Gujarat Titans are off to a good start in this run chase. 

A decent first over to start with from Deepak Chahar, which yielded just three runs. Both Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill played shots on the off-side and these two will look to make the most of the powerplay. 

Tushar Deshpande has become the first impact player in the IPL as he replaced Ambati Rayudu in this match. A bit of history for the youngster, who will add to CSK's bowling attack in this innings as they attempt to defend 179. 

MS Dhoni's fireworks in the final over coupled with a classy 92 from Ruturaj Gaikwad has given CSK a good total on the board. CSK started off well despite losing wickets and looked set to get a total of around 200 but Gujarat Titans bowlers bounced back and made scoring difficult. Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph and Mohammed Shami took two wickets apiece. 

OUT! Mohammed Shami has dismissed Shivam Dube just when the left-hander was looking good. A ball ago, he was pulled for a six but Shami has had the last laugh, digging in one more short ball and Dube miscued it this time, with Rashid Khan taking a good catch. Shivam Dube c Rashid Khan b Mohammed Shami 19(18)

OUT! Alzarri Joseph has struck again and dismissed Ravindra Jadeja! The left-hander connected well but was not placed well as it found Vijay Shankar at the boundary. OUT! A very good innings from Ruturaj Gaikwad comes to an end! The ball was a full one and Gaikwad went for a big shot, but could only find Shubman Gill. Four overs remaining and Gujarat Titans have put the brakes on the scoring rate here. While Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has scored a fifty already has not had much of the strike, Shivam Dube has struggled to get going. How much can CSK get here? 

OUT! Josh Little has his first wicket in the IPL and it is that of Ambati Rayudu, who was looking to go big by dancing down the ground. FIFTY! Ruturaj Gaikwad has scored this season's first half-century and it has come off just 23 balls. The CSK opener has been batting brilliantly so far with five fours and three sixes.

After surviving an lbw chance, Moeen Ali tried to hit one on the off-side and only ended up edging behind to Wriddhiman Saha behind the stumps!
