That's It! India Women return to winning ways as they defeat New Zealand women by 53 runs. It is a relieving victory for them as they are now ensured an entry in the semifinal. It was a game curtailed by rain but Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana's century made sure India batted out New Zealand from the game. New Zealand, meanwhile, will be heartbroken as they are eliminated from the semifinal race.Â
Out! After a terrific innings, finally Brooke Halliday departs. She gave a sheepish smile while walking off as she knew this was a losing battle. Tried to slog sweep Sree Charani as she had to go at everything. Didn't get the connection this time and got holed at the deep. End of a memorable knock. Halliday c Sneh Rana b Shree Charani 81(84).
Brooke Halliday and Isabella Gaze have been fighting against the asking rate which keeps on rising steep. They have played well to get New Zealand on course but it is not enough to chase down the mammoth total posted by India. Halliday has been particularly briliaant but she is fighting a losing battle here.Â
Out! Maddy Green tried her best but it was not to be. Stepped out to take on Pratika Rawal as she was the part timer and it was necessary to attack her, but ended up misfiring and the ball just went in the air. The cover fielder completed an easy catch and now India are all over New Zealand. Brooke Halliday continues her resistance at one end and completes half-century. Green c Kranti Gaud b Pratika Rawal 18(20).
Out! Amelia Kerr departs and it is a body blow to New Zealand. She was playing brilliantly and keeping New Zealand stay afloat. Tossed up delivery from Sneh Rana, Amelia Kerr goes for the slog sweep, doesn't get the best of connections and the short mid-wicket fielder completes a good catch. India on top here. Amelia Kerr c Mandhana b Sneh Rana 45(53).
After two wickets fell in a phase of play, both Amelia Kerr and Brooke Halliday has stabilised the New Zealand innings and looked to keep it steady for the next few overs. They looked to establish a platform from where they can launch and both of them did a good job so far.Â
Out! Massive wicket for India. Sophie Devine was the woman in form and to see her back means India get a massive boost in this game. It is Renuka Thakur Singh who strikes again. Comes in once again, just like Plimmer, Devine's feet goes nowhere and the ball burst through the gate knocking over her stumps. India are ahead in the game now and they will look to keep it that way. Devine b Renuka Singh 6(9).
Out! Crucial breakthrough for India after a partnership of 50 runs. Renuka Thakur Singh is the one to deliver. Georgia Plimmer was playing her shots and Renuka brought a delivery in while keeping the wicketkeeper on the stumps. Plimmer couldn't step out and as a result played from the crease. The ball took an inside edge before crashing on the stumps. Plimmer b Renuka Singh 30(25).
Out! India strike early in the game and the pressure of a big chase got big on Suzie Bates. Length ball Kranti Goud, moved in the air a little. Bates jumped out to take the shot on over mid-off but miscued it and the ball lobbed to the hands of the point fielder inside the circle. India are pumped. Bates c Pratika Rawal b Kranti Gaud 1(6).
More overs get lost as innings break gets delayed due to rain. Good news is rain has stopped and the supper soppers have done the work. Some final bit of preparation of outfield going on and the New Zealand batters are warming up on the sidelines. The match is now reduced to 44 overs a side. The new restart time is 8:25 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).Â
A slight drizzle has arrived and that has delayed to start of the New Zealand innings. Covers have been brought on again and the waiting game continues. Must be frustrating for both sides. Fans will hope the rain is not heavy enough.Â
Last two balls of the Indian innings has been dramatic. First Harmanpreet Kaur gets dismissed thanks to a brilliant catch taken by Eden Carson. Richa Ghosh gets to play one ball and she gets a thick edge which reached the boundary. Earlier, Jemimah Rodrigues played a solid knock to back up the centuries of Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana. New Zealand will have a tough task in hand.Â
There was minor setback when the rain returned for one second time. But it stopped quickly and the covers are now completely taken off. Super soppers are in work, trying to dry the outfield as soon as possible. It has to be seen whether umpires keep the old restart time or it changes.Â
Good news for the fans. After a heavy burst, the rain has stopped and the big covers are going off the field. Some time will be needed to prepare the field for play to restart, as there is heavy water on the covers. Umpires have estimated a revised start time and the match is likely to restart soon unless rain arrives yet again. Revised resumption time is 7:50 PM Indian Standard Time (IST). One over is lost from each side's innings and now the match will be 49-over a side.Â
Well it is not looking like a passing shower now. The umbrellas are out and the drizzle has turned into heavy rain. The ground is getting cover by three fourth with more covers coming on and despite that puddles are forming in the areas not covered. Doesn't seem like there will be a quick start.Â
Not the expected appearance but rain has arrived in Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai and the players walk off the field. Covers come on and get placed along the pitch as the drizzle gets heavier. India were on a strong finish and were looking well set to get to 350. It is likely to be a passing shower and currently it is a heavy drizzle. Fans will hope that overs are not lost.Â
Fifty! India's top three have all scored half-centuries now. Jemimah Rodrigues is the latest one in the list. Came in at a time with India Women having a solid platform to launch on and needed to score quickly. Jemimah, who was dropped from the last match, showed her high range and accessed each part of the field on her way to her half-century. She will look to give India a solid finish now.Â
Out! Finally Pratika Rawal departs. She was swinging hard at every delivery and this one didn't come off. Amelia Kerr floated it on off, Rawal came down to take the long-off fielder on, but substitute fielder Hannah Rowe ran in and dived to complete a sensational catch. India will have to go hard at every delivery from here on. Pratika Rawal c (sub)Rowe b Amelia Kerr 122(134).
Hundred! Pratika Rawal has her moment and it is a Women's World Cup hundred! Rawal has been extremely consistent since her debut and the consistency reflected in the World Cup as well. Started cautiously and maintained solidity in her innings and now takes India to a solid position by scoring her second century of her career. Rawal will know she still has a long way to go.Â
Out! Finally Smriti Mandhana departs after a well-made century and a stupendous opening partnership. Mandhana aims to go for a slog sweep against Suzie Bates, doesn't get under it and the deep fielder runs in to take the catch in her second attempt. End of a memorable innings at a crucial time from Mandhana. Mandhana c (sub)Rowe b Bates 109(95).
New Zealand, on the other hand, will look to get their second win of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025.
