Ireland vs Afghanistan Highlights And Cricket Score 3rd Match - ODI Commentary
Rashid Khan, the man of the moment, is being interviewed near the ropes - Says he is always happy to do well for his team. Admits it is a crucial match as it's the series decider. States that he focused on doing the basis right and keep the balls in good areas. Reckons it's a turning wicket. Feels that they did not bowl well in the last match and mentions that even today they were not at their best. However, feels they hit the good length areas much more today and that reaped them the rewards. Ends by saying that they hope to play positive cricket, to have fun while playing, give 100% effort and not care much about the result.
The target is a very small one and one would back the Afghan players to chase this down. The wicket is a little slow and there is some turn on offer but Ireland are probably 50 to 60 runs short. So what do we have in store for you in the second innings? Afghanistan making a mockery of the run chase or Ireland fighting back? Join us to find out.
Ireland just never recovered after that. Rashid Khan then ran through the middle order. So that ends an excellent bowling performance by Afghanistan. Exactly what they would have wished for after being asked to field. It was Alam who started off everything as he got Stirling early. Porterfield and Balbirnie then, did start building a partnership but a few rash shots saw Ireland lose three wickets in quick succession.

Gulbadin Naib to Andy Balbirnie. FOUR! Classic! Very full and outside off, Andy is in too good a form to miss out there, he strokes it through covers and bags a boundary.
Gulbadin Naib to William Porterfield. Leading edge but safe! A little too straight by Naib. Porterfield tries to flick it but closes the face of his bat a touch early. Maybe he was expecting the ball to come a touch quicker but it does not. It takes the leading edge and lobs back over the bowler's head for a run.
Gulbadin Naib to William Porterfield. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Gulbadin Naib is into the attack.
Aftab Alam to Andy Balbirnie. On the stumps again, AB pushes it to mid on. Another good over by Alam comes to an end. He has gone for only 7 in his three overs and taken a wicket also.
Aftab Alam to Andy Balbirnie. OHHHH! Close shave! Alam bowls it a touch fuller on off, Balbirnie strokes it back towards the bowler. He gets a hand to it as the ball goes agonizingly close past the stumps at the non-striker's end. William Porterfield gets back in with a dive. However, replays show had that hit the stumps, WP would have just about made it.
Aftab Alam to Andy Balbirnie. Outside the off stump, Balbirnie shoulders arms to it.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. Once again nicely driven on the up through wide mid off. However, it does not get to the ropes but the batsmen get three.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. Howzzat? The answer to that question is not out! Height an issue and replays later show it pitched outside leg. Shorter around leg. Porterfield goes for the pull but misses it. He is hit high on the pads.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. A length ball outside off, Porterfield does not play at it.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman to Andy Balbirnie. Floats it up in search of some purchase. The ball is a little too full though. Andy gets to the pitch of it and pushes it to covers. Another tight over by an Afghan bowler comes to an end.

Aftab Alam to Andy Balbirnie. BEATEN! Balbirnie goes fishing to a ball outside off, he probably could have left it. Luckily for him though, it whizzes past the outside edge.
Aftab Alam to Andy Balbirnie. Just behind a length on off, this one keeps a touch low, Andy gets his bat down in time and keeps it out.
Aftab Alam to Andy Balbirnie. Once again in the corridor of uncertainty. AB rocks back and keeps it out.
Andy Balbirnie is the new man in.
Aftab Alam to Paul Stirling. OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Alam draws first blood and it is a well deserved wicket. He has been really good till now and he has got his reward. He lands it on a length around off, Stirling has to play at it. He is half-forward as he tries to keep it out. The ball straightens, kisses the outside edge and goes into the mitts of the keeper. Alam is pumped up and he seems to be watching a lot of football as he brings out the Ronaldo celebration. The dangerous Paul Stirling walks back cheaply, not the start Ireland would have wanted after winning the toss and opting to bat.
Aftab Alam to Paul Stirling. Good start to his second over! Good length on off, this one pitches and shapes away. Paul tries to defend but is hit high on the glove.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman to William Porterfield. A dot to end! Not a lot of purchase for Rahman in his first over. He bowls this flatter on off, Porterfield keeps it out easily.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman to William Porterfield. The slider on the pads, Porterfield works it to mid-wicket.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman to William Porterfield. FOUR! First boundary and it is off the bat of the Irish skipper. Top shot this! Rahman bowls it a touch too full and pays the price. He is crisply driven through covers and the ball races away to the fence.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman to bowl from the other end.
Aftab Alam to Paul Stirling. Off the mark is Stirling with that confident punch. Back of a length outside off, Paul guides it through backward point and runs two. A good first over by Alam comes to an end.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. Edged but wide of second slip! So after two wayward deliveries, Alam has really come back well. Once again uses the angle very well. Pitches it on off and then gets to slant away. William tries to block it but the ball takes the outside edge and goes down to third man. The batsmen cross. Also, first run for Ireland in this game.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. Uppish but safe! On a length again around off, Porterfield tries to stroke it on the up, he does so uppishly but well short of cover-point.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. A huge shout by the bowler but nothing from the umpire. Alam gets this one on the money and it almost produces a wicket. Excellent use of the angle there, on a length and around off, this one pitches and angles away. Porterfield tries to defend but he seems to have been beaten. The bowler puts in a loud shout but is not supported by the rest of the players. He is not happy as he feels there was an edge. However, the replays shown further are inconclusive.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. Again bowls it too wide outside off, Porterfield does not need to play at those.
Aftab Alam to William Porterfield. A touch of swing first up. Encouraging signs for the bowler but the line is little too wide outside off, Porterfield lets it be.
Out come the players as we are all set to get underway. William Porterfield and Paul Stirling are the openers. Aftab Alam will start the proceedings for Afghanistan. Here we go...
Asghar Afghan, the Afghanistan skipper, says the toss does not matter. States they will look to put pressure on the Irish batsmen. Ends by saying there is only one change in their playing XI, Janat comes in for Zazai.
William Porterfield, the Ireland skipper, says it is a used pitch and he wants to make the best use of it first up. Adds further that it is still a pretty good surface but might just slow up in the second innings. Mentions the last 4 series against Afghanistan have been tight and they would love to come out on top. Informs they are unchanged for this game.
TOSS - Ireland win the toss and they opt to bat.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, will put the last game behind them and try to get back to winning ways. They are favorites to get their hands on the trophy but the hosts won't go down without a fight. Let us hope we have an exciting game of cricket here today. Welcome to the coverage.
After a one-sided T20I series, the ODI series has turned out to be a really interesting one. It is time for the final game of the tour, which is also the decider. The Irish have momentum on their side and they would look to carry it forward and end on the winning side.
That's it from our side for this match. To catch more cricketing action you can switch tabs to the India vs England game. Hope to have your company the next time around. Till then, have fun and stay healthy. Tata, Bye-Bye, Chao, Fir Milenge, Sayonara!
Afghansistan captain, Asghar Afghan says he is proud of the way his team played, especially his bowlers. Adds that he is proud of the wicket he took but gives all the credit to his fielders and his bowlers. Ends by thanking the support they got in the matches they played throughout the country.
Ireland captain, William Porterfield says that it wasn't a wrong decision to bat first but a wrong total. It's always difficult against such bowling lie up. Adds that in the first two matches, they managed to make it even but in the last one, it was too much to be done. Implies that he is proud of the boys they played. Ends by saying that they did not had much cricket in between so he is looking forward to the upcoming tournaments.
Player of the series, Rashid Khan, starts by thanking the almighty. Adds that it was quiet tough for him in the second match but he wanted to comeback nicely and he got the results in the third one on a difficult track. Further adds that the weather has been great and he really enjoyed cricket here. Ends by saying that he is hopeful of coming back again and playing in this beautiful country.
However, that was not to happen as Afghanistan showed just why the cricketing world is so excited about the progress of this wonderful set of players. Ireland, on the other hand, will hope to learn some important lessons from this tour and hope to raise their game in their future tournaments.
Afghanistan will be more than happy with their performance today. Their bowlers were right on the button as they just did not allow the Irish batsmen to settle in and put up a decent enough score. Their bowlers, spinners and pacers sharing five a piece, were just too good for the hosts. Rashid Khan, in particular, was in his elements as he mesmerized the hosts with his guile and skill, picking up three wickets. After restricting Ireland to a paltry total of 124, only a miracle or some harakiri from the Afghans could have saved the home team.
That is domination of the highest level by the Asian team. Afghanistan have chased this down with 26.1 overs and 8 wickets remaining. They finish the tour on a high. Though the home team showed good fighting spirit by bouncing back in the last game, the visitors were back to their best. They bounced back with a clinical performance to bag the ODI series after sweeping the home team away in the T20Is.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. FOUR! GAME...SET...and MATCH! A comprehensive and deserving win for the visiting team they have dominated this match. McBrine pulls the length a bit short, Shahidi rocks back quickly and pulls it over the mid-wicket region for a boundary. This pair of Shahidi and Ihsanullah have chased this down on a canter.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Tossed up on off, Shahidi gets forward and defends. Anti-climax per se.

Peter Chase to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Shahidi takes on the short ball again, tries to pull again but does not connect anywhere near as good as the first ball. No run.
Peter Chase to Hashmatullah Shahidi. A bit short outside off, Shahidi shoulders arms.
Peter Chase to Hashmatullah Shahidi. FOUR! Masterful stroke! Chase bangs it short just outside off, Shahidi picks up the length early, swivels and pulls it exquisitely towards the deep square leg region. The timing and placement carries the ball over the ropes.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Misfield! Shahidi cleverly guides the slow, shortish ball through the backward point region. Kevin there misfields and allows the batsmen take three. 9 more needed now or I should, just a formality left to be done.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Stays put in his crease and keeps the flighted ball to the on side.
Andy McBrine to Ihsanullah. That's the highest score in the ODIs for Janat now, beating his previous best of 54 against Zimbabwe earlier this year. He gets a shortish ball around off and he gets it through the off side to reach his milestone.

Peter Chase to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Shahidi punches this short of a length ball straight to covers.
Peter Chase to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Keeps it on a length outside off. Shahidi lets it go.
Peter Chase to Ihsanullah. Chase bangs it in short and Ihsanullah takes him on. He swivels and pulls it over the fielder at square leg. But has not timed it perfectly. The fielder at square leg chases it down and saves a run for his team.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. A fine sweep again from the batsman but couldn't beat the diving Rankin at short fine leg. He though couldn't make the stop cleanly and hence, two runs are taken off the misfield.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. A touch short around off, cut to backward point for no run.
Andy McBrine to Hashmatullah Shahidi. FOUR! Shahidi turns this flighted ball into a low full toss and sweeps it clinically through the backward square leg region. Afghan and Shahidi cruising along nicely.

Tim Murtagh to Ihsanullah. On a length around off, defended.
Tim Murtagh to Ihsanullah. FOUR! And another beauty of a shot. I'm starting to like this young man and his mature shot making. He gets a similar ball to 16.3 and he makes sure that he doesn't miss out on a scoring opportunity. Ireland have given up it seems. No real effort from them is visible here.
Tim Murtagh to Ihsanullah. The batsman drives the ball straight down the ground.

Boyd Rankin to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Full and straight, driven straight to mid off.
Boyd Rankin to Hashmatullah Shahidi. FOUR! This would ease off some pressure. Rankin keeps it very full on the stumps. Shahidi this time leans forward and drives this beautifully straight down the ground between the bowler and mid on. The mid on fielder gives chase but cannot stop it from rolling over the ropes.

Boyd Rankin to Hashmatullah Shahidi. A length ball angled across the left-hander, he guides it to third man for no run.
Boyd Rankin to Hashmatullah Shahidi. Geez! That missed everything there. Another skiddy ball from Rankin this time. Shahidi hangs back waiting for the short ball perhaps and due to his weight on the back foot, he couldn't come forward in time to get his bat down. The ball cuts him in half and whizzes past his pad, bat and later, the sticks as well. Rankin can't believe how it happened. Shahidi survives a scare.
Boyd Rankin to Hashmatullah Shahidi. On the pads, flicked to the on side for no run.
Boyd Rankin to Hashmatullah Shahidi. FOUR! Nicely times this straight drive down the ground. A full ball in line of the stumps. Shahidi presents the full face and gets it past the bowler for a boundary.
Tim Murtagh to Ihsanullah. Is that out? No, says the umpire. It looked to be hitting outside the off stump. Anyway, Tim hurls this one on a length and pushes it into Janat. The ball skids off the surface and the batsman is late to get his bat down. As a result, the ball raps him on his knee roll. The good thing here was he was hit outside the off stump line, which perhaps saved him.

So, the mini session comes to an end with Murtagh taking a wicket for Ireland. After Rankin's first wicket off the second over of the innings, the duo of Janat-Shah stitched a 50-run stand and charged along nicely. They kept the home team bowlers at bay and played some glorious shots in the process. They just need 72 more runs to wrap up this match and the series. They still have 8 wickets in hand and it's shouldn't be too much of a worry. Though, Ireland wouldn't make it easy for them either. The chase continues after the break, hang around!
Tim Murtagh to Rahmat Shah. OUT! Timely wicket for the hosts. Tim Murtagh strikes right at the stroke of Lunch. The Irish team still in the hunt as they return back to their dressing room with some momentum and hope. Tim lands this one on a fuller length just outside off. Rahmat, while looking to half-heartedly come forward, tries to work it away towards mid-wicket. The ball pitches, nips in, beats the inside edge and hits Shah's front pad. He ends up getting a thick edge of his willow on it and it goes aerially towards the third man fielder. Murtagh there cups it easily and disappointment for Afghans in the second over.
