South Africa vs India Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Summary

End of Over : 45.3 IND: 270/4

Right! Not quite the number 1 vs number 2 contest one would have hoped for. India have played like Kings in Kingsmead, blowing South Africa away. Will more of this follow in the second ODI? We head over to Centurion for the lone day game in this ODI series - at 1000 local (0800 GMT). That will be played on Sunday, 4th February, 2018. Do join us then. There will be a couple of other matches before that game but the one currently ongoing is the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka Test series where it is difficult to say who is putting up a fight and who is the underdog. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!

Victorious Indian captain, Virat Kohli says that the first game of a series is very important and the team wanted to bring the confidence from Johannesburg (the third Test where India won). Adds that when they restricted South Africa to 270, they realized that they are in with a chance. Feels sorry for Dhawan but nice for Rahane as he sealed the number 4 spot. Agrees that chasing is fun, as it suits his game style more. On his century celebration, he smiles and says that he had not scored a century in South Africa and to do that in the very first game means great. On his knee injury, he says that he felt pain in his groin as well and players need to be careful in long tours like these. Is proud of his bowling unit - Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah and the two spinners. Praises Faf du Plessis for his innings too. Is happy that the two young spinners were bravely flighting the ball, in spite of playing their first game in South Africa. Is even happier that both bowlers were setting their own fields, which indicates their confidence. On Rahane, he says that watching him bat gave him confidence at the other end.

South African skipper, Faf du Plessis says that he went to the dressing room during the run chase not to HIDE, but because he wanted to check his finger. On his back, he says he is fine, not a worry. Blames the poor batting by his side for the loss. Praises India for their bowling but sternly tells that the Proteas were 60-70 runs short because India have a very good batting lineup. Is happy of the stands with Morris and Phehlukwayo but still, laments the batting effort in general. On the bowling, Faf says that he tried all that he could to try and pick up a wicket but Kohli was too good. Hopes that his side learns a thing or two from the Indian batting in this game.

Agreed, it is just the first match but once the new balls got older, the Proteas simply struggled to keep the Indians quiet. Singles were conceded easily and it was not till the 30th over when Rahane and Kohli actually decided to try and finish the game by the 40th over that the visitors pressed on the charge button. To win by 6 wickets, that too, with a proper batsman short, in a foreign venue, just goes to show the volumes of confidence, this team is in. Time for the presentation...

Really seems like an India-Sri Lanka ODI match all over once again. Pitch looked subcontinental, yet India found ways of losing two quick wickets. Then, the 189-run stand between Kohli and Rahane sealed the deal. South Africa have a lot of questions to answer in their quest for Mission WC 2019 and this is definitely not their best step.

Two fabulous knocks, one team goes on to win. Faf du Plessis' century lifted South Africa to 269. At the halfway stage, it seemed competitive. But halfway through the run chase, it just seemed like a respectable total defending which, the Proteas could try and pick some wickets.

45.3 4

Kagiso Rabada to MS Dhoni. FOUR! India go 1-0 up. In some style. Dominated South Africa at a venue where the Indians have not won a single ODI before tonight. A short ball around off, Dhoni swivels and pulls it through square leg. No one bothers to chase. Everyone wants this done and dusted with. Let us shake hands. VICTORY BY 6 WICKETS AND 27 BALLS TO SPARE!

45.2 0

Kagiso Rabada to MS Dhoni. A full toss outside off, pushed back to the bowler.

45.1 1

Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya. Outside off, pushed to the off side for a quick single.

End of Over : 45 5 Runs 45.3: 265/4
44.6 0

Andile Phehlukwayo to MS Dhoni. Huge LBW shout, nothing in it. Full and straight, Dhoni misses his flick and is hit on the pads. Amla thinks this would have been worth a review but Hawk Eye shows it to be missing leg.

44.5 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, pushed towards mid off for a single.

44.4 2

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. That ball has struck the batsman on the thigh pad. They manage to come back for the second. Leg byes given by the umpire.

44.3 W

Andile Phehlukwayo to Virat Kohli. OUT! Kohli falls. After a valiant century. A short ball outside off, Kohli looks to pull but mistimes it miles in the air. Kagiso Rabada runs across to his left from fine leg and takes it comfortably. Kohli cannot take his team home but his side is nearly home. End of another magnificent innings.

44.2 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Hardik Pandya. Ridiculous review. Pandya had walked across his stumps and missed a straight delivery, a full toss, getting pinged on the pads. Phehlukwayo asked the question, only to be ignored. He convinced the stand-in skipper, Amla to go for the review, who decides to waste some time. Impact is umpire's call, hitting not even one of the three stumps. A single taken in the meanwhile.

44.1 1

Andile Phehlukwayo to Virat Kohli. A short ball outside off, pull-slapped through mid-wicket for a single.

End of Over : 44 3 Runs 45.3: 260/3
43.6 0

Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya. Full and outside off, Hardik gets across and defends.

43.5 1

Kagiso Rabada to Virat Kohli. Let's play football! What an effort. Kohli pulls this through fine leg where Tabraiz Shamsi, the substitute, runs to his left, slides and then kicks the ball away towards deep mid-wicket! A single taken.

43.4 1

Kagiso Rabada to Hardik Pandya. Walks across his stumps and flicks it towards fine leg for a single.

43.3 1

Kagiso Rabada to Virat Kohli. Full and outside off, driven through mid off where Hashim Amla slides across to stop the ball to his right. Just a single.
