The 34-year-old midfielder decided to hang his boots after Germany crashed out of Euro 2024. He made 131 appearances for Germany and scored 45 goals. He made his debut for Germany in March 2010. In the 2010 World Cup, he netted five goals and won the Golden Boot and FIFA Young Player Award.

The 34-year old has been one of the finest players to play in the past decade and possesses a trophy cabinet which many can only dream of. However, the European Championship would have been the last feather in his cap as that remains the only competition he did not win in his career.

Toni Kroos already cleared his stance on retirement before the start of the UEFA Euro 2024. The former World champion hangs his shoes after Germany’s loss against Spain in the quarterfinal of the competition. His club Rela Madrid salutes Kroos’ illustrious career.

Kroos retired from the national team already in 2021, after Germany lost to England in the last 16 of the pandemic-delayed Euro 2020 tournament. But one of the first things Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann did after his appointment in September 2023 was ask the cool-headed midfielder if he'd consider returning to help Germany's title bid in its home tournament.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Kroos said that in recent times younger players are better than others. The German midfielder added that they know what Yamal is capable of in a game. The 34-year-old added that the German side will try to keep Yamal and Nico Williams as quiet as possible in the upcoming match.

He ended his club football career with Real Madrid after the Los Blancos' 15th UEFA Champions League (UCL) win. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Joselu hoped that Toni Kroos' last match in his international career would be against Spain on Friday. He added that Germany are a dangerous team.

Kroos wasn't flashy as Germany beat Denmark 2-0 on Saturday, but he was a calm, assured presence holding the midfield together. Kroos already won the Champions League with Real Madrid this season. Now he's three games away from one final trophy and could face his Madrid teammate, Spain's Dani Carvajal, in his next game.

The end of the UCL clash marked the end of club career for Kroos. Before the final, the German midfielder announced his retirement from football after the end of the Euro 2024. The UCL final against Borussia Dortmund marked the final club game for the 34-year-old with Real Madrid.
