Lori Chavez-DeRemer IG Report: Details on Strip Club Visit, N*de Dancers and Alleged Affair
Former Labour Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer maintained an inappropriate relationship with a member of her security detail and directed a subordinate to distribute cash to performers during an Oregon strip club visit, according to a Department of Labour inspector general report released Thursday, September 3. Chavez-DeRemer resigned from her post in April, three months after initial reports surfaced regarding an investigation into her relationship with security guard Brian Sloan and allegations of official misconduct. Policy Violations and Unprofessional Conduct
The Office of the Inspector General concluded that a preponderance of the evidence substantiated multiple violations of Department of Labour policy, reports New York Post. The watchdog also determined that she failed to comply with department policy prohibiting workplace harassment. However, the report noted insufficient evidence to establish that Chavez-DeRemer and Sloan engaged in a romantic or s*xual relationship.
Electronic hotel door lock records from two Las Vegas trips indicated that Chavez-DeRemer and Sloan spent at least portions of the night in each other's rooms. Witnesses also reported observing Chavez-DeRemer massaging Sloan's shoulders in a vehicle during a trip to Michigan, alongside an exchange involving a s*xual innuendo where Sloan remarked he was "solid as a rock" after being asked if he was tired.
Strip Club Incident Confirmed
The inspector general report detailed an April 2025 incident involving Chavez-DeRemer taking staff members, including her body man, to an Oregon strip club during an off-the-record visit. According to the findings, Chavez-DeRemer handed money from her purse to a driver and security detail member, directing him to give it to a performer. When the agent hesitated and sought guidance from Sloan, Sloan instructed him to comply. Chavez-DeRemer then provided additional cash, asking the agent to drop bills onto a performer. The agent complied after Sloan again told him to follow instructions.
Broader Protocol Breaches and Subordinate Findings
The report outlined four additional areas where Chavez-DeRemer breached protocols, including combining personal and official travel inconsistently with department policy, possessing and consuming alcohol on federal property without authorisation, directing government employees to perform personal tasks on official time, and failing to report gifts through required channels. Furthermore, the inspector general substantiated policy violations by four Chavez-DeRemer subordinates, including Sloan. Three former staffers - ex-chief of staff Jihun Han, deputy chief of staff Rebecca Wright, and director of advance Melissa Robey - were found to have violated department guidelines regarding workplace harassment, on-the-job alcohol consumption, improper travel, and misuse of government resources.
