Farmers Protest Outside Haryana Mini-Secretariat, Karnal Kisan Mahapanchayat Sees Thousands Gather

On September 7, thousands of farmers marched to the mini-secretariat in Haryana's Karnal and gheraoed it. This comes after talks with the BJP government failed. Protesting farmers said that they will not go back until their demand for action against the former Karnal SDM Ayush Sinha is accepted. They demanded action against the police lathicharge on farmers on August 28. As the protesting farmers marched on foot from the mahapanchayat venue to the mini-secretariat five kilometres away, they faced water cannons on their way. Farmers along with Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leaders spent the night at the main entrance of the Karnal mini secretariat in Haryana. Many SKM leaders including Rakesh Tikait, Yogender Yadav, Gurnam Singh Chaduni were present. Meanwhile, the government extended the suspension of mobile internet and SMS till 12 am, September 9.
