Posts on social media by a minister and leaders in Maldives against Prime Minister Narendra Modi has sparked a controversy. This comes after PM Narendra Modi’s visit to the Lakshadweep. In the social media posts, the ministers used derogatory language against PM Modi. The tweets came after PM Modi’s tweet about snorkelling in the Lakshadweep. Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed condemned the comments by the minister. Abdulla Shahid, former Foreign Minister of Maldives also condemned the comments. Hours after the derogatory comments were made against PM Modi, the Maldives government distanced itself from the remarks and said they are views of individuals and not the government.
