‘Marathi People Are Dirty’: Family in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar Allegedly Insulted by Gujarati Resident Over Non-Veg Food

A heated altercation over food choices in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar has turned into a communal flashpoint between Marathi and Gujarati residents. The incident occurred at Sambhav Darshan Co-operative Housing Society where Ram Ringe, a Marathi resident, alleged that a Gujarati neighbour called him “dirty” for eating fish and meat. Seeking help, Ringe contacted the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which promptly intervened. Videos from the scene show MNS leaders warning Gujarati residents not to mistreat Marathis, stating they would “respond in their own style” if harassment continued. The issue flared up further when residents demanded Ringe’s boycott on the society’s WhatsApp group. Police have begun investigating the matter and plan to hold a meeting in the society. Meanwhile, Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticised the state government, accusing it of fostering regional and cultural divides.
