The incident, which took place at Jahada in Kharigumma village on June 22, has sparked widespread outrage after a purported video of the assault went viral. The viral video showed two men crawling on their knees with grass in their mouths. The victims were transporting two cows and a calf in an auto from Hariour to their village when they were confronted and assaulted allegedly by a group of self-proclaimed "cow protectors". After the video went viral, police arrested six accused.
