US Hit By Floods As Tropical Storm Henri Makes Landfall On East Coast

Tropical Storm Henri hit the coast of Rhode Island on August 22. Due to high winds, tens of thousands of homes faced power outage. Heavy rainfall led to flash flooding from New Jersey to Massachusetts on the east coast. The storm was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm. It made landfall near Westerly, Rhode Island on August 22 afternoon with sustained winds of about 60 mph and gusts of up to 70 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Since then, Henri has weakened and now has sustained winds of 50 mph as it moves inland. National Grid reported 74,000 customers without power in Rhode Island. In Connecticut, over 28,000 customers were affected by outages. New York City was under alert as the storm approached.
