The incident occurred on September 10 as the Turkish Airlines flight approached Tunis-Carthage International Airport. According to passenger accounts and videos shared on social media, the journey had been smooth until the aircraft began its descent into Tunisia. Passenger Marina Maiskaya, who was travelling with her mother, said the pilots made three attempts to land amid the adverse weather conditions. She said the aircraft was shaken violently during each attempt and appeared to suddenly lose altitude during the third approach.

Flight Diverted to Alternate Airport

With weather conditions preventing a safe landing in Tunis, the crew diverted the aircraft to Enfidha-Hammamet International Airport, located about 60 miles south of the Tunisian capital. The aircraft landed safely at the alternate airport, bringing the incident to an end.
