Washington DC [US], May 16 (ANI): Michael Fassbender, who is known for portraying the role of Magneto in X-Men, is in negotiations to join the 'Brutalist' director Brady Corbet in his next mystery film, reported Variety.

According to Variety, the film is rumoured to be called 'The Origin of the World'. It marks Corbet's follow-up to his highly acclaimed 2024 epic 'The Brutalist', which landed 10 Oscar nominations, including actor for Adrien Brody, cinematography and original score.

Little is officially known about the project. Speaking in late 2025, the director said that it would be an X-rated movie that took place mostly in the 1970s.

"The film spans from the 19th century into the present day, it's just predominantly focused on the '70s. The film is really, really genre-defying," he said as quoted by Variety. It's also reportedly being shot using very rare eight-perf 65mm cameras.

David Kaplan and Andrew Morrison will produce the film under their Kaplan Morrison production banner.

According to the outlet, Fassbender is currently in Cannes with the South Korean sci-fi thriller "Hope" by Na Hong-jin, starring alongside Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Jung Ho-yeon, Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton and Alicia Vikander.

He most recently starred in Steven Soderbergh's espionage thriller 'Black Bag' and Irish hit 'Kneecap' on the big screen and the Paramount+ spy series 'The Agency: Central Intelligence.'

This film will mark Corbet's fourth feature as a director following 'The Childhood of a Leader,' 'Vox Lux,' and 'The Brutalist.'

He also produced last year's 'The Testament of Ann Lee,' directed by his partner Mona Fastvold, with whom he also co-wrote most of his films. (ANI)
