Hyderabad, Sep 17 (PTI) A woman employee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was allegedly assaulted and injured Monday by a ruling TRS Co-option (nominated) member of the civic body over removal of a statue here, police said.

The woman working as Assistant City Planner, in her complaint stated that during 'Prajavani' meeting, G Jyothi Goud and others allegedly manhandled her causing injury on her right hand, besides she was "slapped and insulted" by Jyothi, police said.

Last week during her rounds in the Alwal area, the official noticed that a statue of the deceased son of Jyothi, was installed "unauthorisedly". Although necessary notices were served to remove it, the statue was still there at the spot.

The municipal administration got the statue removed as it is an encroachment on road last week, which apparently is suspected to be the cause behind the "attack", police said based on the complaint.

Following the complaint, police registered a case on the charge of assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty and voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty and took up investigation.
