Girl Found Strangled to Death, Sexual Assault Suspected

Pune, Dec 7 (PTI) A 17-year-old girl was found strangled to death at her house in Dhayari area off Sinhagad Road here, police said.

The incident took place on Thursday, they said, adding that her post-mortem has indicated that she was also sexually assaulted.

Talking to PTI, Joint Commissioner of Police Shivaji Bodkhe said the deceased lived in a tenement with her family.

"The victim's brother came home from school in the afternoon on Thursday and found his sister lying unconscious. He immediately informed his parents, who were away from home at that time. They work as labourers," he said.

Her father then called their neighbour, who works as a nurse and asked her to rush to their place and check what has happened.

"After checking the girl's pulse, the woman rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead," Bodkhe said.

A case of accidental death was registered with Sinhagad Road police station and the body was sent for autopsy.

"The post-mortem report, which came today, revealed that she was strangled to death. Some marks and bruises were found on her neck. The report also indicated that she was sexually assaulted," he said.

Further investigation was on.
