Patna (Bihar) [India], December 24 (ANI): Union Minister Giriraj Singh has launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, linking the recent unrest in Bangladesh with alleged appeasement politics in West Bengal and escalating his rhetoric ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections in the state.
Addressing the media in Patna, Singh described the developments in Bangladesh as "unfortunate" and drew a controversial comparison with Pakistan. "What has happened in Bangladesh is unfortunate. Bangladesh has taken the path of Pakistan, and I believe that some people in Bengal are imagining a Bangladesh. This is not possible, and Mamata Banerjee is probably thinking the same," he said.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in Bangladesh, where anti-India slogans and protests have been reported following the killing of Inquilab Moncho convenor Sharif Osman Hadi, a key figure associated with the July Uprising that led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina last year. Concerns have also intensified over the safety of minorities after the killing of 27-year-old Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh. Das was allegedly beaten to death by a mob over accusations of blasphemy on December 18, with his body later set on fire, triggering international outrage and condemnation.
Singh further trained his guns on the Trinamool Congress government over the controversy surrounding suspended TMC leader Humayun Kabir, who had claimed he would inaugurate a "Babri Masjid" in West Bengal's Murshidabad district on December 6.

"Mamata Banerjee deliberately haven't arrested Humayun Kabir yet. The foundation stone for the Babri Masjid is being laid. This is being done in the name of the invaders," Singh alleged.
Escalating his attack, the Union minister added, "Just like the people of Ayodhya cleared things up, the same will happen there. Wherever there are symbols of invaders, people will clear them away themselves. The BJP government will come to power in Bengal, and there will be no mosque named after any invader."
Humayun Kabir was suspended by the TMC following his remarks but has defended himself, stating that the Constitution grants him the right to build a mosque.
West Bengal is expected to go to the legislative assembly polls in March-April 2026. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the TMC-led alliance won 215 of the 294 seats, while the NDA secured 77 seats, emerging as the principal opposition. (ANI)
