Pilibhit (UP), May 26 (PTI) A leopard was found dead in a forest area near the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve here on Friday, officials said.

Divisional Forest Officer Sanjeev Kumar said the leopard was spotted outside Mahua village on Thursday and a team from the forest department team was keeping a watch over it.

However, on Friday, the team informed that the leopard has died, he added.

The reasons behind the death of the big cat will be known only after the post-mortem report is received, Kumar said.

According to forest department officials, a leopard attacked some people living in a thatched house in Mahua on Wednesday.

Three persons were injured in the attack, they added.

On Thursday, information was received that the leopard was sitting in a sugarcane field outside the village. The forest team started keeping a watch over the big cat, the officials said.

On Friday evening, when the leopard made no movement, the team checked and found it dead, they said.
