Dehradun, Jul 11 (PTI) Uttarakhand is eyeing a record by aiming to plant five lakh saplings on 'Harela' on July 16.

Harela is a festival of greenery and is celebrated on the first day of the month of Shravan. The festival is popular in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared the information on Facebook and said, "A new record will be set on Harela by planting five lakh saplings!"

He said that in Uttarakhand, Harela is not just a festival but a sacred tradition of expressing gratitude towards nature.

"This festival is a symbol of our folk culture, faith and the values ??of environmental protection," Dhami highlighted.

Officials said that three lakh saplings will be planted in the Garhwal division and two lakh in Kumaon, for which preparations have been completed.

Participation of villagers, school students and various departments will also be ensured for the success of this plantation campaign, the officials said.
