New Delhi, Mar 1 (PTI) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Friday kicked off its six-day Rose Festival with more than 80 varieties of the flower being displayed.

This festival is being organised after the Tulip Festival last month.

The Rose Festival is being hosted at the India-Africa Friendship Rose Garden on Shanti Path in Chanakyapuri and will continue till March 7.

"To celebrate the spring season in New Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council is organising a series of events like Tulip festival, Music in the Park, Flower Festival, Rose Festival and Food Festival," a statement said.

More than 80 varieties of the flower such as Fantasia, Hasina, Country Girl, First Edition, Hakun, and Betty Bop, are being displayed at the NDMC's Rose Festival, according to the release.

The Rose Festival will host a series of events such as painting competition, discussion on books, felicitation of winners of photography competition and experts' talk on roses.

A book reading session on the Baolis of Delhi will also be held this weekend at the festival.

The India-Africa Rose Garden was developed by NDMC on the occasion of Indo-Africa Summit in 2015.

The Rose Garden has 5,000 Roses, of which over 70 varieties were brought from different parts of the country. It also has different types of water bodies and lilies in the ponds.
