Kolkata, Aug 14 (PTI) The West Bengal Postal Circle on Wednesday released a special cover on the music therapy which was used in an effort to change the minds of the inmates of correctional homes in the state.

Music can reduce anxiety, improve cognitive functioning, promote physical rehabilitation and enhance inter-personal communication and it has been used that effect in the correctional homes of West Bengal, a Postal Department spokesman said adding that the Special Cover was themed on that idea.

The Special Cover came in acknowledgement of the effort by danseuse and social activist Alokananda Roy's pioneering role in changing the lives of correctional home inmates through her dance production 'Valmiki Pratibha'.

It is a dance drama written by Rabindranath Tagore, which tells the story of how a bandit changes into a saint and poet. Inmates of a correctional home took part in the dance drama that was staged several times outside the jails.

Roy was the guest-of-honour at the inaugural programme of the 34th All India Postal Cultural Meet where the cover was unveiled.
