Bangkok [Thailand], Feb 8 (ANI): In an unprecedented and historic move, Thailand's Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi will be running for the post of Prime Minister in the next month's general elections.Ubolratana has been nominated as prime minister for the country's long-delayed general elections by Thai Raksa Chart, a party founded by allies of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, reported CNN.The princess is in competition with the military-backed current Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-Cha, who announced his own candidacy on Friday.Confirming the announcement, Thai Raksa Chart Party chief Lt. Preechapon Pongpanich said in a statement on Friday, "After the meeting among our executives, we have concluded to send Princess Ubolratana as our PM candidate. She is a knowledgeable and capable person. After the meeting, we reached out to her, and she has been gracefully kind and accepted our invitation."Thailand has been ruled by a military junta headed by coup leader turned Prime Minister Prayut for last five years.The general elections have been scheduled for March 24.
