The next-generation Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing once again in India, revealing fresh details about its updated design and interior layout. Although the hatchback segment has seen declining demand due to the rapid rise of SUVs, Hyundai Motor Company appears committed to keeping the i20 relevant with a comprehensive update.
The latest spy shots showcase a less camouflaged test mule, offering a clearer look inside the cabin. The upcoming i20 is expected to feature leatherette seat upholstery with subtle ‘i20’ branding embossed on the seats. The centre console includes an armrest along with twin cupholders, adding to the premium appeal of the hatchback. Hyundai India to Launch Bayon-Based Mid-SUV and Localised Nexon EV Rival in FY2027.
Previous spy images had already hinted at a curved display setup integrating the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster. The steering wheel design also appears to be inspired by the recently launched Hyundai Venue. Other visible features include rear AC vents, USB charging ports for rear passengers, adjustable headrests for all occupants, and soft-touch door pads.
On the exterior, Hyundai seems to be taking a different styling approach compared to its newer SUVs like the Hyundai Creta. Instead of split headlamps, the new i20 is likely to retain a traditional single headlamp setup. Spy shots also reveal connected tail lamps partially hidden under camouflage, black cladding around the wheel arches, and ORVMs with black inserts. The test vehicle appears to ride on larger alloy wheels, although the production-spec India model could get a revised wheel design and slightly smaller size. Under the hood, the hatchback is expected to continue with the familiar 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with manual and automatic transmission choices. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor is likely to remain exclusive to the sportier Hyundai i20 N Line.
Despite slowing growth in the hatchback market, the i20 continues to remain an important global product for Hyundai, especially in export markets. The updated model is expected to play a key role in Hyundai’s plan to expand its portfolio to 30 models by 2030.
