The Accidental Prime Minister Box Office Collection Day 3: Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna Starrer Fares Decently in the Opening Weekend

Despite being embroiled in quite a few controversies, The Accidental Prime Minister starring Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna released on January 11 and got off to a good start at the box office. All the hype around the film, it seems, has worked in its favour till now. The political drama, directed by Vijay Gutte, couldn't please the critics with its interesting storyline. But the film has still managed to stay afloat at the ticket windows. On day 1, The Accidental Prime Minister raked in Rs 4.50 crore which was sort of impressive considering the movie doesn't have a big star in it. The Accidental Prime Minister Review: 5 Reasons Why Anupam Kher's Film Is Nothing But A Piece of Propaganda! (SPOILER ALERT).

After holding up well on the first day, the film saw a 15% jump in its collection on Saturday and then on Sunday the film again performed decently and ended the opening weekend at Rs 12 crore according to media reports. While the official figures aren't out, it looks like Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna starrer could very well end up good numbers if the film continues to slowly mint money at the Indian box office.

Our in-house film critic, Sreeju Sudhakaran, gave The Accidental Prime Minister 2.5 stars out of 5 and wrote in his review, "Anupam Kher's performance in the film is a strange but magnetic deal. In trying to imitate MMS's mannerisms and voice, it feels he is doing a mimicry act, particularly in the way he walks. Curiously, this does work out when the movie is in satire mode. Kher, however, is far more effective when the camera focuses on his eyes and expressions and that's where the actor in him delivers."

"Casting Akshaye Khanna in Baru's role was a masterstroke. Though his frequent smirks get annoying after some time, his screen presence and his dialogue delivery are just too good." The Accidental Prime Minister Box Office Collection Day 1: Anupam Kher’s Movie Collects Rs 4.50 Crore.
