Singer Duffy To Tell Story of Kidnapping and Survival in New Disney Plus and Hulu Documentary
Welsh singer Duffy is set to break her silence in a new Disney+ documentary directed by Gill Callan. The film will explore her 'Rockferry' fame, her 10-year disappearance, and the harrowing 2010 kidnapping and assault she first revealed in 2020. Featuring unprecedented access and family interviews, the project arrives on Disney+ and Hulu soon.
In a major announcement for the music world, Disney+ has commissioned a feature-length documentary that will see Welsh singer-songwriter Duffy tell her story on camera for the very first time. The project, produced in collaboration with Northern Ireland Screen, marks the 41-year-old’s most significant return to the spotlight since her 2020 revelation regarding a harrowing kidnapping and sexual assault.
Duffy Documentary To Reveal Life and Trauma
The documentary, currently entering production under director Gill Callan, will serve as a retrospective of Duffy’s life, tracing her rise from a small town in Wales to global fame following the 2008 release of her multi-platinum debut album Rockferry. It will also explore her sudden withdrawal from the spotlight in 2010 after her second album Endlessly, and, for the first time on screen, Duffy will recount the traumatic ordeal in which she was reportedly drugged at a restaurant, held captive in her home, and trafficked to a foreign country. Speaking about the project, Callan said she was drawn to Duffy’s journey shaped by success, pain, resilience and her enduring artistic voice.
Duffy Documentary Offers Rare Personal Access
The documentary promises new and unprecedented access to the Grammy and Brit Award-winning singer, featuring a deeply personal sit-down interview with Duffy, born Aimée Anne Duffy. Alongside her own account, the film will include interviews with close friends and family members, insights from music industry peers who witnessed her rapid rise and sudden disappearance, and a rich, nostalgic archive of never-before-seen footage from the peak of her career.
Duffy Documentary Set for Disney+ Release
The documentary was commissioned by Disney+ UK as part of a search for impactful, female-led stories. Executive produced by Rare TV and Stellify Media, the film will stream globally on Disney+ and Hulu. While a specific release date has not yet been finalised, Disney+ Vice President of Unscripted Sean Doyle noted that the project is being handled with "extreme sensitivity and care," given the gravity of the subject matter. "This film will give Duffy the chance to tell her story in her own words," Doyle added.
