As per the directive from the state’s school education department, government senior secondary and English-medium schools must subscribe to at least two newspapers, one in Hindi and one in English. Government upper primary schools are required to ensure the availability of a minimum of two Hindi newspapers. The cost of these subscriptions will be borne by the Rajasthan School Education Council, Jaipur. Schools have also been instructed to identify five new words daily from newspapers and explain their meanings to students to enhance language skills. During morning assemblies, one national-level Hindi and one English newspaper will be read aloud. Students will be encouraged to discuss editorials along with major national, international, and sports developments in class-wise groups. Officials said the initiative is designed to improve students’ general knowledge, social awareness, and analytical abilities, while also preparing them better for competitive examinations. The move follows a similar step taken recently by the Uttar Pradesh government, which introduced mandatory newspaper reading in government schools last week.
