Bengaluru Murder-Suicide: Man Strangles Pregnant Wife With Dog Leash, Dies by Suicide

A 28-year-old man allegedly strangled his four-month pregnant wife to death before dying by suicide at their Bengaluru home, police said. A 28-year-old man allegedly strangled his four-month pregnant wife to death before dying by suicide at their home in Bengaluru’s Channammanakere Achukattu area on Thursday, July 16, police said. The victims were identified as Manoj and Swapna, both from Uttar Pradesh and living in Bengaluru for several years.

Police said the couple had been married for nearly three years and were living with Manoj’s parents and other family members. According to police, Manoj worked as a carpenter and had reportedly not gone to work for the past four days. Officers said frequent quarrels had been taking place between the couple.

Police suspect Manoj used a nylon dog leash to strangle Swapna and then used the same rope to hang himself from a ceiling fan. Police rushed to the scene, inspected the house and registered a case. The bodies were shifted to KIMS Hospital for post-mortem examination.  Officials said the investigation is continuing to establish the exact sequence of events. They added that the case is being examined as a suspected murder-suicide pending post-mortem and forensic findings.

The couple had lived in Bengaluru for years, according to police, and were originally from Uttar Pradesh. Authorities said the final cause of death and the circumstances leading to the incident will be confirmed after further investigation.
