Earlier in June, a 42-year-old man from Karnataka’s Udupi district allegedly killed her 27-year-old wife after a quarrel over her watching Instagram reels. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Shankaranarayana police and has once again highlighted the troubling intersection of digital addiction and domestic conflict.
According to the report, the accused, 42-year-old Ganesh Poojary, worked as a painter. His wife, Rekha, was employed as an attendant at a fuel station in Shankaranarayana. The probe revealed that the couple often argued over Rekha’s habit of watching reels on her mobile phone, a conflict serious enough to have previously involved police intervention. The police had earlier taken an undertaking from the couple after being alerted to their ongoing domestic disputes.
