India and Russia held bilateral consultations on Afghanistan on Wednesday in New Delhi and discussed the current situation of the Afghan people. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov and Joint Secretary (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran Division) in the Ministry of External Affairs JP Singh discussed the current situation in Afghanistan.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was on Wednesday shot and hospitalised after a cabinet meeting in the central town of Handlova, local media said. The Dennik N daily, whose reporter saw the premier being lifted into a car by security guards, reported that the suspected gunman had been detained by police.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heatwave alert for Mumbai and Thane on Wednesday, May 15, along with the possibility of a thunderstorm. The development comes amid soaring temperatures in the two cities. IMD scientist Sushma Nair said that Thane and Vikhroli recorded temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius and above on Tuesday, May 14.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of Tamil Nadu has predicted heavy rainfall until May 20. Fifteen to 20 districts will likely receive heavy rain from May 16 to 18. The Nilgiris, ghat areas of Coimbatore, Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Dindigul, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchy, Madurai, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari districts and Karaikal area will receive heavy rains till May 20.

The Supreme Court today, May 15, ordered the release of NewsClick founder and editor-in-chief Prabir Purkayastha. Purkayastha was arrested by the Delhi Police under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act over allegations that the media outlet received money to spread pro-China propaganda.

Mumbai, May 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a roadshow in Ghatkopar in the Mumbai North East constituency today. It will be a 2.5 km long roadshow starting at 8 p.m. from Shreyas Cinema on LBS Marg to Gandhi Market. The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated Mihir Kotecha for the seat, which will go to polls on May 20 with other Mumbai seats in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha election.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially entered the electoral fray again after filing his nomination from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Before filing his nomination, the BJP leader also performed religious rituals, offering prayers at Dashwamedh Ghat and taking a symbolic dip in the holy waters of the River Ganga.

Officials said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Dheeraj Wadhawan, the former director of the housing finance company DHFL, in a Rs 34,000-crore bank fraud case. Wadhawan was arrested in Mumbai on Monday and was produced before a special court in Delhi on Tuesday, which subsequently sent the businessman to judicial custody. According to the central probe agency's charges, Dheeraj Wadhawan and his brother Kapil allegedly defrauded a consortium of 17 banks to Rs 34,000 crore, making it the biggest banking loan fraud in the country.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday on an unannounced diplomatic mission to reassure Ukraine that it has American support as it struggles to defend against increasingly intense Russian attacks. “We know this is a challenging time,” Blinken said in the Ukrainian capital, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
