A 22-year-old passenger was seriously injured after being allegedly stabbed during an argument inside a Western Railway suburban train between Andheri and Borivali late on Tuesday night, June 23. The incident occurred aboard a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train, with the dispute reportedly stemming from whether the coach door should remain open during heavy rainfall.

The victim, identified as Mayank Lohar, suffered abdominal injuries after the altercation allegedly turned violent while the train was in motion. According to preliminary information, Lohar was travelling in the first-class compartment of Train No. 90663, which departed Churchgate at 10.05 pm. The train reached Andheri station at 10.42 pm, where both the victim and the accused were travelling in the same coach. Officials said an argument broke out over whether the compartment door should remain open or closed amid heavy rain.

During the dispute, the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp weapon and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen while the train was travelling between Andheri and Borivali stations.

The train arrived at Platform No. 6 of Borivali station at 11.04 pm. Railway authorities said the accused escaped before the train came to a complete halt. According to Western Railway, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police reached the coach within three minutes of the train's arrival. The injured passenger was evacuated from the compartment at approximately 11.12 pm and provided immediate medical assistance.

Lohar was taken to the Emergency Medical Room at Borivali station at 11.22 pm, where he was examined by a doctor. Railway officials, police personnel and station staff coordinated arrangements for further treatment, following which he was shifted by ambulance to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali at 11.42 pm. The ambulance reportedly reached the hospital at around 11.52 pm, accompanied by RPF and GRP personnel.

Western Railway said senior officers monitored the response throughout the night. The Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Mumbai Central division and the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner visited Borivali station around 1 am to assess the incident and review the emergency response carried out by railway staff.

Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said emergency procedures were activated immediately after railway authorities were informed about the incident.

He stated that RPF and GRP personnel reached the coach within minutes, medical assistance was provided without delay, and arrangements were made for the passenger's swift transfer to hospital.

Abhishek also confirmed that CCTV footage and other relevant evidence have been secured and handed over to investigating agencies.

The stabbing took place inside a moving suburban train between Andheri and Borivali stations. The accused remains absconding, and the Government Railway Police are continuing their investigation to establish the full sequence of events.
