Mumbai, July 16: Out of the seven lakes --Tulsi, Vihar, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar -- which provide water to Mumbai city, the three are already overflowing due to heavy rains that continue to lash the city from past one week. According to the information received from Mumbai civic body, the third lake Vihar started overflowing from Monday morning onwards at 10:30 am. While the other two lakes-- Tulsi (the smallest lake providing water to Mumbai city) and Modak Sagar-- started overflowing from July 9 and July 15 onwards.

Besides this, the water stock in all the seven lakes has increased by around nine percent, taking the total stock up to 64.55 percent on July 16. While last year on the same day, the water level was 65.52 percent recorded, which was more than this year's stock percentage.

The city needs 14.4 lakh million litres of water in the all its seven lakes to provide uninterrupted water supply. Here are the present water stock figures up till now:

Total water stock all seven lakes on July 16, 2018: 934211 million litre

Total water stock all seven lakes on July 16, 2017: 948325 million litre

Total water stock all seven lakes on July 16, 2016: 698261 million litre

BMC provides around 3800 MLD water to the entire city, out of which Modak Sagar lake supplies 450 millon litres of water, fulfilling ten percent water requirement of Mumbaikars. Since the IMD has predicted a forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the 24 hours, officials believe that the water stock will increase further and the entire year's water requirement will be fulfilled. So, Mumbaikars won't have to face any water cuts.
