Security Scare in Delhi: Woman Drives SUV With Forged Foreign Embassy Registration Plates in High-Security Areas, Arrested

A woman from Assam was arrested in Delhi's Vasant Vihar for driving a Toyota Innova with forged foreign embassy registration plates. Seized ahead of Republic Day, the vehicle was used to gain unchecked access to high-security diplomatic zones. The accused, an all-India political secretary, claimed she used the fake "CD" plates to evade police checks after failing to re-register the car.

Mumbai, January 23: The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested a 45-year-old woman for allegedly operating an SUV fitted with forged foreign embassy registration plates. The arrest, made in the high-security Vasant Vihar area on January 15, has been described by investigators as a significant national security development, coming just days before the city’s Republic Day celebrations. Officials noted that the woman used the fraudulent "CD" (Corps Diplomatique) plates to navigate restricted diplomatic zones and elude police checkpoints.

Acting on a tip-off received by the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Cell (AEKC), a special team tracked a white Toyota Innova to a residential street in Vasant Vihar. According to police reports, the woman was intercepted as she took the driver's seat. Delhi Shocker: Saket Court Staffer Dies by Suicide From Complex Building; Death Note Cites Work Pressure (Watch Videos).

While she initially claimed to be a representative of a foreign mission, she was unable to name the embassy or produce valid registration documents. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an additional set of counterfeit diplomatic plates hidden inside.

Origins of the Fraud

During interrogation, the accused - a resident of Guwahati, Assam - revealed that she had purchased the SUV from a foreign embassy in November 2024. However, she failed to legally transfer the vehicle's registration into her own name. After the embassy reportedly filed a complaint at the Chanakyapuri police station regarding the non-transfer, the woman allegedly replaced the original plates with forged ones bearing the number "144 CD 54". She admitted to using the fake identity to gain "unchecked access" to diplomatic enclaves and to avoid standard traffic inspections.

Security Concerns and Investigation

Investigators are treating the case with high priority due to the sensitive nature of the areas the woman frequented.

Political Ties: The woman claimed to be an "All-India Secretary" of a political party and described herself as a consultant for foreign students.

National Security: With Republic Day security at its peak, the Crime Branch is analysing her mobile phone and movement patterns to determine if there were deeper motives behind her attempts to bypass security cordons.

Legal Action: A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for forgery and impersonation. Delhi Shocker: Miscreants Fire 20 Rounds at Rohini Businessman’s SUV Car To Threaten Family Over INR 3 Crore Ransom (Watch Video).

Diplomatic Plate Regulations in  India

In India, diplomatic vehicles are issued blue registration plates by the Ministry of External Affairs. These vehicles often enjoy certain privileges, including easier passage through high-security checkpoints. Police have intensified a crackdown on the misuse of such insignia following several recent incidents of impersonation involving fake government and diplomatic markers in the National Capital Region.
